Major Feature Announcement: Geo-Routing

Geo-Routing is a new major feature we’re pleased to present today! In a nutshell, you can connect multiple producers to a part and Geo-Routing will route order lines to the producer that is nearest to the shipping address.

Geo-Routing enables you to tag Producing Partners with locations and assign products to multiple producers, including your core site. During the checkout phase, the system will cross-reference the shipping address with the locations of all producers linked to the part and route the order line to the best match.

Minimize shipping costs and fulfillment time with Geo-Routing!

Note: Geo-Routing only applies to Propago Platform Producing Partners, not dropshippers.

Geo-Routing makes your Producing Partner linkages richer by adding geographical intelligence to your parts! Examples:

  • You work with a Producing Partner in another part of the country. You and the partner can both produce Widget A. Most orders of Widget A are produced and fulfilled by your warehouse but when the recipient is closer to the partner then the order line is routed to them.
  • You have multiple warehouses in different geographic regions with an overlap in the products each can produce. You add Geo-Routing information to your warehouses so that order lines are always sent to the warehouse that will minimize shipping costs.

Benefits to You

  • Increase supply chain efficiency by routing order lines to the producing partner closest to the recipient’s shipping address.

Benefits to the Customer

  • Reduce shipping costs.
  • Reduce fulfillment time.

How It Works

Using Geo-Routing just requires two steps:

  1. Add location data to the Producing Partners you have connected to your Propago site.
  2. Link parts to multiple producers.

To add location data to Producing Partners:

  • Go to System / Producing Partners.
  • Click the name of the Producing Partner (must have a Partner Type of Producer Partner).
  • In the Geo-Routing section, click Add Location.
  • Select a Country and State.
  • Click Save.

To link a part to multiple producers:

  • Go to the part’s details page. Part / Parts / Search for and select the part.
  • In the Workflow Options section, click Configure Partner PP.
  • Select the producers you want to link from the Available Producer(s) menu.
  • Click the arrow to move the producers to the Selected Producer(s) menu.
  • Click Save Producing Partner(s).

Setting a Default Producer:

When linking producers to a part you have the option to make a producer the default for that part. Order lines will be routed to the default producer if there is no other match for the order line’s route. If no default producer is chosen, your core site is assigned as the default.

This means that if your warehouse does not produce the part in question, it is important to choose a default producer during this step.

Geo-Routing is an extension of the Propago Platform Producing Partner feature. So, here’s a quick overview of Producing Partners:

Link your Propago site with other producers using the Propago Platform. You can link parts across the two sites, see available and on-hand inventory for linked parts, and seamlessly offer products made by your producing partners. Read more about Producing Partners here:
