Did You Know parts can be added to multiple filter options?
Filters allow end users to narrow down the products they see while browsing so they can quickly find what they’re looking for. Filters are created in the back end and managed in the admin section on the front end.

The ability to add multiple filter options to a single part gives clients more flexibility for organizing the storefront browsing experience.
For example, if a client has a baseball cap that they want to appear in both the HAT filter option and the GOLF filter option, they can simply put HAT | GOLF in the part’s filter field.
Another example, if a client wants to filter a part category by state, they could designate which part is available in which state. One part could have the filter options AK | OK | TX and another could have MA | TX | AL | FL. When a user selects the TX filter option, they will see all parts available in Texas.
Benefits to the Client
- Create filters with more complex functionality such as by state availability.
- Create filters with overlapping options such as Shirts and Polo Shirts. (A polo shirt can appear in both the Shirts filter option and the Polo Shirt filter option.)
How It Works
Adding multiple filter options to a part is simple.
- First, go to a part’s maintenance page on the front end: Admin / Parts / Select Part
- Locate the field which is used by the filter. Usually this is Item Type, but filters can also be setup to filter based on custom fields, commodity code, or inclusion tags.
- Input the filter options you want this part to have, separating each with the vertical bar symbol: “|”
- Note: You can put a blank space between the text and the vertical bar or not.
Now that part will show up when an end user selects any of the filter options it was given.
