Did You Know you can use Expiring Lots to add expiration dates to your inventory?

We are expanding the capabilities of lot-tracked inventory management with a new feature called Expiring Lots.
Many organizations manage inventory items with shelf lives—think food, beverages, batteries, or any product that can expire. Propago’s existing Lot Number Required setting (see how to use it here) already helps you track and receive inventory by lot number. Now, with the new Expiring Lots feature, you can go a step further and associate an expiration date with each lot you receive.
Benefits to You
- Expand the utility of lot-tracked inventory with the addition of Expiring Lots.
- Maintain stricter control over inventory management by ensuring the older inventory is picked at a higher priority than newer inventory.
- Add expiration dates to inventory received for both fulfillment and tracking purposes.
How It Works
When setting up a part in your Propago system, you can find a new setting in Workflow Options called Is Dated Lot Number. This option appears just above Lot Number Required:
- Enable Lot Number Required to prompt users to enter a lot number when receiving inventory.
- Enable Is Dated Lot Number to require both a lot number and an expiration date during the receiving process.
When you receive inventory for a part with both options enabled, a date picker will appear on the receipt page. The user receiving the inventory will be required to choose an expiration date in order to receive into the system. This ensures every lot you add includes a expiration date.
How Does Expiring Lots Affect Picking and Inventory Management?
Propago’s picking logic now considers the expiration date of each lot:
- When fulfilling orders, Propago will automatically choose lots with valid expiration dates—ensuring that soon-to-expire inventory is picked first, and expired inventory is not picked at all.
- After a lot’s expiration date passes, the system will no longer select it for order picking. However, expired lots remain visible in the system for inventory tracking, reconciliation, and reporting purposes.
