Did You Know with Advanced Part Management, front-end admins can manage part categories and create new parts?

web print marketing order

Advanced Part Management is a new optional portal-level setting that empowers front end administrators with new capabilities to organize, create, and manage parts efficiently.

This new feature introduces several powerful capabilities that your clients and front-end admins can use to take a more active role in part management.

Part Categories Management

Front end admins can now add, edit, and manage Part Categories directly from the front end interface. This includes:

  • Creating new part categories
  • Managing associated users and user groups for each category
  • Assigning parts to specific categories
  • Controlling category hierarchy and rankings for better organization

Part Creation from Templates

Advanced Part Management introduces a templated approach to part creation:

  • Create new parts using existing parts as templates
  • Copy all part specifications, images, prices, categories, and more to the new part
  • Streamline the creation process while maintaining consistency across similar parts

Benefits to the Client

  • Efficiently manage your product catalog with customizable categories and hierarchies.
  • Quickly create new parts by leveraging existing templates.
  • Automatically hidden from the storefront, usage of template parts ensures only relevant products are displayed to end users.

How It Works

Setting Up Advanced Part Management

Enable the Portal-Level Setting

Advanced Part Management is a portal-level setting. To enable:

  1. Navigate to Portals > Select Customer > Settings.
  2. In the User Experience section, find the setting called Allow Advanced Part Management.
  3. Set to Yes.
  4. Save.

Designate templates

A new option, “Is Front End Template,” is available in the back end part details. When this flag is enabled for a part, it designates that part as a template.

Note: Parts flagged as “Is Front End Template” will not appear in your storefront’s browse or search pages. They are exclusively available within the management pages for template-based creation.

Using Advanced Part Management

Manage categories

Navigate to Admin > Parts. Then click Part Categories to create, rename, rank, and nest categories, then assign users or groups who can manage each one.

Create a new part

If a portal has Advanced Part Management enabled, administrators will find a “Part Templates” option on the Part Maintenance page. Admin > Parts. The Part Templates page will show all available part templates that have been set up in the back end. To create a new part from a template part:

  • Click Create Revision
  • Enter a unique SKU, name, and description.
  • Save

The system will copy all specs, images, prices, and category assignments from the template part to the new part.
