Did You Know you can set the Default Sort Order per folder in the DAM?

web to print marketing portals

A new feature in the Digital Asset Management (DAM) module gives front-end admins greater control over how assets appear when browsing digital assets: you can now set a default sort order on a per-folder basis.

Some folders are more user-friendly when sorted alphabetically—like top-level folders with many sub-folders—while others make more sense sorted by creation date. Previously, this decision had to be made on the fly while browsing. Now, you can customize the default browsing experience folder-by-folder—and even apply the setting to all sub-folders at once.

Benefits to You

  • Create a consistent, intuitive browsing experience in the DAM.
  • Prioritize key assets by sorting newest uploads to the top—or keep things tidy with alphabetical sorting.
  • Improve usability for teams managing a large volume of digital assets across multiple folders.

Now your DAM can reflect not just what’s stored—but how you want to see it, right from the start.

How It Works

To set a default sort order for a DAM folder:

  1. Go to Admin > Digital Asset > Asset Group Details.
  2. Click on a folder to open its settings.
  3. Choose your preferred sort order from the dropdown:
    • Alphabetical A–Z
    • Alphabetical Z–A
    • Newest to Oldest
    • Oldest to Newest
  4. Click Save.
  5. Select whether to apply this setting to just this folder (directory) or to flip the setting for all sub-folders as well.

Note: This setting only determines the initial sort order when a folder is opened. Users can still manually choose a different sort order while browsing.
