Did You Know you can set an image variable to automatically remove the background from user uploaded images?
The settings within a soft proof project allow you to control how variables behave when users are personalizing a product. We have added a new option for image variables called “Remove Background”.
With “Remove Background” enabled, the system automatically removes the background when a user uploads an image for that variable. This process generates a version of the image with a transparent background.
This step occurs after an image is uploaded and before the cropping step, so the user will be able to crop and then see how the processed image appears on the proof.
Benefits to the Client
- Create cleaner looking proofs when allowing users to upload their own images.
- Improve the look of products with non-white backgrounds by converting uploaded images to have transparent backgrounds.
- Achieve a more consistent look across products with user uploaded images.
How It Works
To enable automatic background removal for an image variable:
- In the back end, go to Proofing > Soft Proof Projects.
- Go to the page for the soft proof project with the image variable you want to enable this setting on.
- Variables with the type set to “ImageUpload” will have a checkbox option called “Remove Background”.
- Check the “Remove Background” box.
- Click “Save”.
Products using this soft proof project will now automatically run the background removal process during personalization when a user uploads an image for this variable. The image will be converted to a version with a transparent background. Then the user will be able to crop the image and generate their proof.
