Major Feature Announcement: Propago On Zapier

We are happy to announce that Propago is now available as an application on Zapier! Zapier is a tool for integrating applications and automating workflows between applications without built-in integrations.

By connecting Propago to Zapier, you can create custom automations that connect applications supported by Zapier with your Propago site. This allows you do things like set up a Google Sheet document that automatically records order data each time an order comes in through a portal.

This is done by creating Zaps in Zapier. Zaps are custom workflows that link different applications together with Triggers and Actions. In other words, a Trigger event in one application will cause an Action event in another.

How It works

First, you’ll need a Zapier account. If you already have an account, you can use your existing account. If not, do the following:

Creating a Zapier Account:

  1. Go to https://zapier.com/
  2. Click Sign Up.
  3. Choose to either sign up with Google, Facebook, Microsoft, or with your work email.
  4. If signing up with your work email, enter the email and your name. Then click Sign Up.
  5. If signing up with Google, Facebook, or Microsoft, click the respective button to log in to your account and connect it to Zapier.

Creating an API Key in Propago to use in Zapier

The next step is to set up an API key in Propago that you will use to connect your site to Zapier. Before you do this step, there are some important things to note:

  • You can connect Propago to Zapier either at the Site level or the Company level.
  • You can create multiple connections (multiple API Keys).
  • A connection at the Site level will pull data you’re your Propago site for your Zapier automations.
  • A connection at the Company level will pull data from a specific customer/portal.
  • Some Zapier triggers and actions are exclusive to either a Company level connection or a Site level connection.
  1. Go to: https://admin.mypropago.com/site/serviceapi.aspx – This is the link to the Service API page.  It can also be found by going to Tools -> Service APIs.
  2. Click on Create API key. A form will pop up. Here is what to put in each field.
    1. Partner Name: This will be the name you will select once in Zapier to identify this API Key. If you will be making. It is recommended to include the name of your company in this identifier if this will be a Site level connection or the name of the customer if this will be a Company level connection.
    2. Contact Name: This will not be used in Zapier. This name will be attached to this API Key entry so there is a record of who set up the connection.
    3. Contact Email:  This will not be used in Zapier. This email will be attached to this API Key entry so there is a record of who set up the connection.
    4. API Key: In most cases, it is recommended to leave this field blank. The API Key will be auto-generated. This will be used in Zapier to make the connection to your site.
    5. Enabled: Set to Enabled to activate this API Key. Set to Disabled to turn off the connection. This can be changed at any time.
    6. Select Type: As noted above, there are two types of Propago to Zapier connections. Select Site to link Zapier to the entire site, select Company to link to a specific Company/portal.
  3. Click Save API Key
  4. The auto-generated API Key can now be found in the credentials column along with the Partner Name you entered. This is the username and password you will use when connecting to your site in Zapier.
  5. The checkbox columns allow you to enable and disable various types of data connections with Zapier. These are disabled by default, so check the boxes to choose what types of Propago data you wish to use in Zapier. These categories are:
    • Shipment
    • Part
    • Order
    • Inventory
  6. Note: The level of access and permissions needed will be provided in the Zapier description of the Trigger or Action.

Connecting Your Propago API Key to Zapier

Now that you have a Zapier account and a Propago API Key, the next step is to connect that key to your Zapier account.

  1. Go to https://zapier.com/
  2. On the left-hand menu, click on “My Apps”.
  3. In the top right corner, click Add Connection.
  4. Type Propago in the search and select “Propago (1.0.0)”. This will bring you to a login window.
  5. Enter the username and password from the Propago Service API page. The username is the Partner Name and the password is the API Key as found in the credentials column.
  6. Select the type of access, either Company or Site, that corresponds with the Type you choose when creating the API key. 
  7. Click Continue.

Now, you have connected your Propago site to your Zapier account and you can start creating Zaps.
