Did You Know you can use Part Attributes to add user options to products without creating separate SKUs?

Attributes allow you to add options to parts when users are ordering. Those options will be listed on the orderline. Unlike part configuration, parts attributes don’t involve creating a Master and Child parts and don’t have different SKUs for each option.

Use attributes when you want to create options on a part but don’t need to track inventory on the different options. For example, a shirt with sizes and colors is great for part configuration because each size/color combination will be stocked and tracked. A business card with the option of rounded corners wouldn’t necessarily need separate SKUs. So that would be a good use of an attribute.

You can also define price values for attributes to add a surcharge for options on parts. Because attribute options are attached to the orderline, they can be reported on as well.

Benefits to You

  • Create options on parts without setting up part configurations.
  • Define attribute price values to add surcharges for attribute options.
  • Pull order reports with attribute information on orderlines.

How It Works

Start by setting up an attribute type in the Part Attribute section of the back end. Part / Part Attribute Types:

  1. Click Create Attribute Type and enter information for the attribute type.
  2. Once you’ve created an attribute type (like Color or Size), you can use the same button to add options within this type. Enter the attribute type you just created in the Attribute and use Display Label to name the option.
  3. Check the Required box next to the attribute type if you want to require users to select an option.

Once you’ve created an attribute type and added attribute options to it, you can add it to a part:

  1. Go to a part’s details page and find the Attributes section on the menu.
  2. Click Add Attribute and choose which attribute type to add.
  3. You can use the delete button next to each attribute to remove options.
  4. Use the Value column to define a price value for each attribute option.
