Did You Know carriers can calculate rates based on order total or weight?
With flat rate and order rate shipping you can set up carriers with pre-defined shipping rates based on the total price or weight of orders.
Flat Rate: Shipping rate is determined by the total weight
of the order.
Order Rate: Shipping rate is determined by the total price of the order.
Order rate shipping can also be set up to add a percentage of the order total to the shipping cost.
Benefits to You
- Options for carrier types that don’t require pulling rates from a carrier.
- Define set shipping rates based on order totals.
- Define set shipping rates based on order weight.
How It Works
To set up order rate or flat rate shipping, do the following:
- Go to the Carriers page in the back end. System > Carriers
- Add a carrier or select the carrier you want to give order or flat rate shipping.
- For flat rate shipping, go to the Flat Rate tab and click Add
- Input a weight and a rate. Repeat for as many rates as you need to define.
- Go back to the Carrier Settings tab and turn on the Flat Rate Shipping option.
- For Order Rate shipping, the process is the same except you can add a percentage of the total to in addition to the order rate.
Let’s look at an example. You set up a carrier with an Order Rate as follows: Order Price: $100, Rate: $25, Percent: 0
This would mean that on an order that is under $100, the shipping rate will be $25, in addition to any customer-level fulfillment charge. Let’s say you add another rate to the carrier defined as: Order Price: $150, Rate: $25, Percent: 0.1.
This would mean that on a $125 order, the shipping rate would be $37.5 ($25 plus 10% of $125).
