Did you know you can use RegEx validators to validate user inputs on Global Profiles?
A RegEx validator (Regular Expression) is used to validate the value of an input against a specified format. One of the more common uses of RegEx validators is with email addresses. With an email address validator in place, a user will not be able to submit an entry unless the value in the email field matches the specified format.
Note, this does not check to make sure the email address entered is a real, active address, only that the data the user has given conforms to the format of an email address as defined by the validator.
Custom RegEx validators can now be assigned to Global Forms. This provides a simple way to reduce the chance of user inputting incorrect information due to typos. It also makes it easy to ensure that information on Global Profiles conforms to the desired format.
Benefits to the Client
- Reduce the likelihood of users entering incorrect email addresses on Global Profiles
- Use RegEx validators to prevent data being added to Global Profiles in an invalid format
How It Works
Assign a custom validator to a Global Form item by going to Global Forms in the Proofing tab in the back end. Select a Global Form, then select an item, such as E-Mail. The Form Item Details will pop up. Enter the RegEx validator you wish to use in the field labeled Custom Validator.
