Did You Know order specific data can now be added to variable production print files?

We’ve now added the ability to render order data (Order Display Number, Custom Identifier, and Proof Name) onto high-resolution production print files once orders are placed.

This variable data type provides a way to add detailed order information onto the actual artwork, making it easier to keep track of orders throughout the production workflow.

Benefits to You

  • Easily add identifying information to the actual production files
  • Track any order within the production workflow by its print-ready file at a glance
  • Use custom identifiers and proof names to keep track of production files

How Does It Work

Order data variables can now be added to soft proofing templates that will display this order information once the product is ordered. On a part’s Soft Proof Projects page, found in the back end under the Proofing tab, you’ll find a new data source option called Order Data. Note, this data will not display on the portal proof or the low-resolution proof PDF because Order Data information is not generated until an order has been placed.

Order Data contains three possible values:

  1. Order Display Number is exactly what it sounds like, a unique number assigned to the entire order.
  2. Custom Identifier is a unique ID given to each line of an order.
  3. Proof Name is a name given to each proof in an order, entered by the user when finalizing a proof.

For example, if an order comes in with 3 different business card proofs made for 3 different end users, the entire order would be assigned an Order Display Number and each distinct business card proof would be given a Custom Identifier and a Proof Name. This data would be hidden from everything except the high-resolution production files and can be edited in the back end.
